Pancreatitis

In patients with severe pancreatitis (inflamation of the pancreas), for example, blood which leaks out of the pancreas is visible through the abdominal wall. This accumulated blood appears as a bluish/gray discoloration of the skin surrounding the flanks or umbilicus (belly button). This indicates that the pancreatitis is severe enough to have caused tissue death and bleeding.
